Students...

Private lessons? Covering any topic or technique under the sun, private lessons are available by request. Want to learn something at your own pace and on your own time... just give us a call!
Private Lessons are $25/hour of instruction. All materials must be purchased at the shop.

Group classes? Group classes are scheduled seasonally: Fall, Spring, and Summer. 
Group Classes are $15/hour of instruction. In order to keep class fees low and instructors fairly compensated, all materials required for class must be purchased at the shop.

Learn to Knit

We have designed a "Learn to Knit" series of 4 lessons. With the purchase of a materials kit, these lessons are offered for free!

Our Learn to Knit series will give someone all the skills necessary to knit simple garments all by themselves.
If you have never touched a pair of knitting needles in your life, or if you are a beginner who has done some knitting, but feels like they need a little formal guidance in order to take their craft to the next level, these lessons are designed with you in mind. Start at the beginning, or feel free to jump into these lessons at whichever point you think is appropriate. We're happy to help determine which lesson to take first if you're not quite sure. Just give us a call, or stop by the shop anytime to chat in person.

These lessons are designed for you to work through them at your pace so that you can fit them into your schedule however works best for you. Attend them back-to-back, or not! Homework will be given at the end of each lesson, so please make time for a little knitting on your own every day in order to maximize retention of the skills covered in each lesson.

Lesson 1: Knitted Cast-On and the Knit Stitch
Lesson 2: Binding Off, Knitted Cast-On, the Knit Stitch, and the Purl Stitch
Lesson 3: Binding Off, Reading a Pattern, Knitted Cast-On, Joining to Work in the Round, the Knit Stitch, and the Purl Stitch
Lesson 4: Brief Ravelry.com Introduction, Decreasing, and Weaving in Ends

Materials Kit...
Students will need to purchase a materials kit which includes the supplies you will need to complete all four lessons.

Two Skeins of 100% Wool, Worsted Weight Yarn
(Cotton yarn can be substituted, but it is not recommended.)
One US#5, 16" Circular Needle
One US#7, 16" Circular Needle
One Set US #7, 5" Double Pointed Needles (DPNS)
Four Stitch Markers

Wednesdays, 1 hour of instruction (4-5pm or 5-6pm)

Ergonomics of Needlecraft

​Saturday, September 21st, 2-3:30pm
Instructor: Stella Boyer
Fee: $22.50 (Instruction) + $46.95 (Textbook)


In this class we will discus Knitting Comfortably, by Carson Demers.  In his book he talks about knitting ergonomics, what causes problems and how to prevent issues down the road.  We will go over exercises you can do at home, and things we can do as knitters to increase safety, efficiency and productivity. 

We will cover stretches, exercises and self-care that will ensure we continue to knit as pain-free as possible for many years to come.

Required Materials: Knitting Comfortably by Carson Demers; scrap worsted weight yarn, US #8 needles, paper and pen for taking notes

How to Read a Knitting Pattern

Saturday, September 21st, 4:30-6pm
Instructor: Stella Boyer
Fee: $22.50

Level: Beginner
In this class, you will learn how to read knitting patterns.  We will discuss how to read written vs. charted patterns, how to recognize a "good pattern" versus a "bad pattern," understanding abbreviations, and tips to decoding tricky patterns.
Stop struggling with patterns and learn to recognize mistakes in the pattern before they become mistakes in your knitting!

Required Materials: pattern(s) about which you have questions

My First Sock

Saturdays, October 26th & November 2nd, 4-6pm
Instructor: Stella Boyer
Fee: $60

Level: Intermediate*

Learn to knit your first sock using a basic pattern. We will discuss the anatomy of a sock, modifications to the pattern, how to measure your foot, and what the different parts of a sock add to the overall fit.


PRE-CLASS ASSIGNMENT: do gauge swatch to confirm gauge: cast on 32 stitches using a stretchy cast on; knit flat in stockinette stitch for 2-6 inches. Cast off, block, and measure gauge. AFTER you have the correct gauge, cast on 64 stitches, join to knit in the round, and knit in ribbing pattern (see below) for the leg of the sock. Knit the leg as long as you prefer; 2-7" is recommended.
Students must complete the pre-class assignment PRIOR to class.

RIBBING PATTERN:
Round 1: K6, P2 repeat across
Round 2: Knit across

*Experience Necessary: Students should be comfortable knitting in the round using one of the following methods: DPNs, magic loop, 2 circular needles, or one 9" circular needle.
