Some of you have been asking or wondering where I've been. I have to say, it's been surprising, and not a little flattering, to be missed as much as I have been these last few weeks. Thank you! I've missed you, too.
I'm sorry to say the answer to that question is not very exciting, though. I was in Texas visiting family immediately following the Christmas holiday. We drove (GASP!) and I got SO MUCH knitting accomplished...
We returned home on January 2nd and since then, I've been right here! We have, however, made some staffing changes around the shop, and that is what you have all noticed.
These are good changes! Here's what's going on...
Running a micro business such as this one is a ton of work, as I'm sure many of you are well aware. Without the budget to hire enough staff to handle all of that work, it typically falls to just one or two people. For the past year and a half, it has fallen to me. As many hours as I have been spending in the shop during the week, I have been spending at least that many working at home to keep this place running smoothly.
The result... I'm tired!
Some of you may have noticed a decline in my typical level of enthusiasm, or maybe you noticed the circles that were gathering ever-darker beneath my eyes. My husband and children definitely noticed. It was high time that I delegated more and I finally felt comfortable doing just that.
This is where Stella comes into the picture. Stella will be taking over the majority of my shop hours. If you haven't met her yet, please stop by soon and introduce yourself! Stella has been an extremely positive force in the shop. She has revitalized a languishing Loops Group on Tuesday evenings. She has kicked our class offerings into high gear. And she daily proves herself to be a welcoming, supportive, and impressively knowledgeable member of our team. She is eager to spend more time with all of you in the shop and I hope you will make her feel as special as you have made me feel over the past year!
I will still be here, and once my daughter (Lucy) begins Kindergarten in August, you will see me back in the shop each day, but from now on, I will be focusing my attention more closely on the growth and management of this amazing little business! Starting this blog is just one part of that, but maybe the only part that's fun enough to mention. The rest will be inventory management, bookkeeping, paperwork, and website maintenance. I'll also be getting us set up with an online shop so all of our friends from afar can continue to shop with us, even after they've returned home from a visit to our sweet mountain town. All these things I never had enough time or energy to do properly before will finally get the attention they deserve.
I will miss seeing all of your faces each week. Terribly. And I look forward to my return to the daily life of the shop come August. In the meantime, I'll still be in the shop most Saturdays, so stop by and say hi!
And be sure to bring your FO's so I can gush over them like this...
